2016 Charlie Burkart Scholarship Recipient!
Nick grew up in Fairfield, IA and attended Fairfield High School where he played golf and placing 7th place at state, First Team All-State, Second Team All-State, and 2-time Southeast Conference individual champion. Beginning in the fall of 2016, he will attend Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers, Florida where he plans to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in PGA Golf Management. Nick was also an active member of the Iowa PGA Junior Tour. Congratulations again Nick!
The Iowa Section of the PGA annually awards a college scholarship in memory of Charlie Burkart, PGA member for 48 years and head professional at the Elmcrest Country Club in Cedar Rapids for 47 years. The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students with their education. Each recipient receives $4,000 over a four-year period, $1,000 per year for full-time attendance.
Any graduating high school senior who is a resident of the state of Iowa and western Illinois (a part of the Iowa Section PGA) is eligible to apply. The Iowa Section PGA includes an area of western Illinois from a point north of Quincy, east to near Springfield and directly north. It includes the major cities of Monmouth, Macomb, Galesburg, Moline, Rock Island, Kewanee and Galena. It does not include the cities of Freeport, Springfield or Quincy.
Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf and the potential for future contributions to the game, then on their academic ability and financial need.
The Iowa PGA Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2016 Charlie Burkart Scholarship. Applicants must complete the application and mail to the scholarship committee prior to June 16, 2017.
Each applicant is required to submit the following when applying for the scholarship:
- High school transcript of work completed.
- Two recommendations – one from a high school administrator or teacher and second from the PGA professional at the applicant’s home course, or course where PGA professional is employed.
- Applicant must include a self-statement concerning his/her interest in golf, other activities and awards, his/her educational and vocational plans and financial need.
